Myofascial Release helps free up that “stuck” feeling, so you can return to activities you love—like Yoga—or tackle household chores easily and comfortably…

and other FAQ’s

  • Myofascial Release is a highly effective form of manual therapy that works with your body—not against it—to ease tension, relieve soft tissue restrictions, and calm the nervous system.

Using gentle, sustained pressure (never force), MFR helps reduce pain, improve mobility, and support lasting relief from musculoskeletal issues—like stiffness, headaches, joint discomfort, or that “stuck” feeling in your body.

Instead of pushing through resistance, this approach invites your body to soften and unwind at its own pace, making space for deep healing and greater ease in moving, feeling, and functioning.

  • Fascia is a strong, stretchy, web-like layer of connective tissue that surrounds and supports everything inside your body—muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels, and even organs. It connects you from head to toe and from skin to bone in one continuous, three-dimensional network.

Fascia is made up of three main components:

    • Elastic fibers – these allow your body to move and stretch with ease, like a rubber band.

    • Collagen fibers – these give fascia its strength and structure, kind of like scaffolding in a building.

    • Ground substance – this is a gel-like fluid that fills the spaces between the fibers, helping everything glide smoothly.

When you’re healthy and relaxed, the fascia is soft, pliable, and fluid, allowing for free, comfortable movement. But stress, injury, inflammation, or even poor posture can cause this tissue to become tight, dehydrated, or stuck, limiting motion and creating pain or tension.

Myofascial Release helps restore the health of these tissues by gently melting through the restrictions, rehydrating the ground substance, and allowing your body to move and feel better again, naturally and without force.

  • John F. Barnes Myofascial Release (JFB-MFR) is unique from many traditional therapies because it works with the body, patiently, gently, and deeply, rather than trying to force a change.

Where physical therapy or massage may focus on muscles or specific problem areas, MFR looks at the full body system, including fascia—the connective tissue web that wraps through and around everything in your body. Tight fascia can create pressure and pain anywhere, even far from where the tension started.

JFB-MFR also takes into account not just the physical body, but the emotional and energetic layers as well. That’s because past experiences, stress, or trauma can get “stuck” in the tissues and show up as pain, stiffness, or dysfunction. MFR allows time and space for your body to release at its own pace—without rushing, forcing, or digging in.

This approach is similar to massage in that it uses hands-on touch, and it can feel very relaxing, but unlike typical massage, MFR uses long, sustained holds that reach down into the fascial system. It’s also similar to physical therapy in its goal to restore movement and function, but with a slower, more intuitive pace that respects what your body is ready to release.

The result? Long-lasting relief and a deeper connection to your body.

  • You may begin noticing relief in as little as a single session. A single session, however, is not the way toward lasting relief you're searching for. When you receive regular MFR, you’ll begin to notice things shifting in your body, new or old symptoms or sensations, as your original reason for trying MFR begins to resolve. It's about creating in your body and mind sustainable relief over one-and-done quick fixes, which place you on a cycle of recurring injuries or symptoms. For some, it might take a few sessions, others weeks or months, just know that no matter how long it takes, you'll feel better sooner than if you never began with MFR at all.

  • Your experiences have created your unique fascial restrictions, symptoms, and pain.

That’s why we view each client without a plan or a designed protocol of techniques.

What worked for someone else with similar symptoms may not work for you, so we meet you where you are today, and at each visit, to aid in helping YOU.

Myofascial Release goes beyond any label, diagnosis, dysfunction, or symptom and takes the whole of you into consideration, which allows for each session to be individualized to where you are today.

“The work I’ve been doing with Brandon has been transformative, he has a synced intuition for healing and creates a space to harbor this. I’m grateful I found him.”

  • Direct access to your skin is key in getting the best results from your MFR sessions.

    Upper body:
Where appropriate, having loose straps on a sports bra, regular bra, tank top, or similar upper body clothing. Less is more.

    Lower body:
Loose elastic-banded shorts with a wide opening around the thigh, underwear, bathing suit bottoms, or similar shorts.

Clothing that can hinder direct access to skin includes (Don’t wear these):

    • Cargo shorts

    • Yoga pants

    • Board shorts

    • Bike shorts

    • Jeans or jean shorts

    • Tight boxer-briefs

    • T-shirt, sweatshirt, long-sleeved shirts, tight tank tops

At any time, you’ll not be completely undressed (nude) without a covering or sheet.

  • Holding a stretch for an extended period is a key aspect of JFB-MFR. This technique allows for the release of interleukin, a natural anti-inflammatory produced by the body, promoting healing. Holding past 3 minutes also begins to release the collagenous barrier of your fascia, which is often missed when other therapies don't hold as long, or slip over with oils, lotion, or clothing, and offers those long-term results you've been searching for. Each session is tailored, with stretches held for a minimum of 5 minutes, sometimes longer, to achieve the best results.

  • Yes, treating the fascia both before and after surgery can enhance surgical outcomes and aid in a smoother recovery.

It helps address scar tissue that may arise post-surgery, promoting better movement and reducing discomfort.

  • Many traditional therapies focus on the symptoms—where it hurts—without addressing what’s causing the pain underneath it all.

Here’s the thing: fascial restrictions (tight, sticky areas in your body’s connective tissue) often don’t show up on standard tests like X-rays or MRIs. So even if your body is screaming for relief, your scans might come back “normal,” leaving you frustrated and still in pain.

It’s kind of like having a kink in your garden hose. You can turn up the water pressure, twist the nozzle, or replace the spout—but until you release the kink, the water still won’t flow properly.

That’s what fascial restrictions do—they act like internal kinks, binding up muscles, joints, and nerves. Things like adjustments, stretching, or strengthening exercises can help in some ways, but they don’t unwind the fascia that’s often at the root of the problem.

Myofascial Release works directly with that inner restriction. Gently, patiently, it helps soften the tension, so your body can move, function, and heal the way it’s meant to.

  • Yes, even in the first five minutes of a hold into your tissues you can begin to experience a softening, lengthening, or decrease in pain. Sixty minute sessions allow for a few more techniques to be applied and for you to feel into other sensations or thoughts during that time. You also have the option to book back-to-back, or double sessions if you're wanting to extend your session time to 120 minutes of hands-on therapy (where availability allows).

  • Yes, I offer a package of six (6) MFR sessions.

We will discuss your goals and desired timeline for healing at your first appointment to establish frequency of sessions and if a package is something you prefer.

  • You must complete all 6-MFR sessions within is 60 days from purchase.

It’s about one session per week for six weeks.

  • You can book a single MFR session and click the “Reserve Without Paying” button after you’ve entered your details for booking. It will ask for your Credit Card info to hold the session. At your visit, you can discuss the package offer with your therapist, and you can then purchase the package the day of your first session, and apply one (1) of the 6-MFR sessions to that first session, and not need to pay the single MFR session rate.

  • The short answer: It depends.

If you're just starting out, more frequent sessions—like a few times a week or weekly—can really help your body build momentum and start releasing long-held tension. The consistency allows your system to stay in that open, healing state rather than falling back into old holding patterns.

As your body begins to respond and you feel more freedom, less pain, and greater ease, we can shift to a more spaced-out rhythm that supports your progress—like every few weeks or monthly for maintenance.

Everyone’s healing path is a little different, and we’ll adjust your plan based on how you're feeling and what your body is asking for.

Multiple sessions will create a lasting sense of comfort and openness in your body that you didn't realize was missing before!

It's easy to think that the pain you're experiencing or struggling with might never get better.

Once you’ve experienced MFR, you'll recognize how much more is possible. And with each session, layers of stuck pain can begin to open and get you toward feeling your best self.

But you just won't know how good you can feel until you've taken the time to try MFR.

I’v seen time and time again clients who have stopped just short of complete transformation, yet more is available for you when you commit to your healing.

Multiple sessions have created a lasting sense of comfort and openness in my body that I didn’t even realize was missing before.”

I discovered Myofascial Release as part of my journey to reduce anxiety and release any old, stuck emotions or traumas that might be trapped in my body. I had been working with a therapist and practicing meditation, but I hadn’t yet explored anything that focused directly on my body.

I’m much more aware of where I hold tension, stress, and anxiety in my body—and I now have tools to help release it. Whether it’s techniques Brandon has shared or simply recognizing when I need to pause and reset, I feel more in tune with myself. Even though I didn’t have major physical complaints before, I now feel noticeably lighter, more comfortable, and open in my body compared to before I started.

I was a little nervous about trying something new, especially knowing I’d need to be open and trust someone with my body and emotions—something that’s challenging for me. I also wondered if it would be effective enough to justify the cost and time commitment. But I was in a good place to take that chance, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how immediately calming and centering each session is. What’s even more unexpected is the long-term effect—multiple sessions have created a lasting sense of comfort and openness in my body that I didn’t even realize was missing before.”
